The の Particle

The の-Particle: #1 "My Precious"

Here we look at how the の-Particle is used to join two nouns together and show ownership.

The の-Particle:
                  #2 "The Precious is Mine"

Here we see how the の-Particle can be used to create "possessive nouns", like "his", "hers", "theirs", "Evan's", and the sort.

Nominalizing Clauses using 事 and の

Here we show how to nominalize clauses. Turn "I eat" into "I like eating".

Compound Particle のに

Here we look at のに and how it is used to create sentences pertaining to "despite", "however", and "even though".

Compound Particle ので

Here we look at ので, which is similar to 'The Extended Predicate' (below). This compound particle generally has the meaning of "because", or "due to".

The Extended Predicate: のです

The extended predicate is actually very similar to ので, but functions differently. Sentences ending in the extended predicate - some form of のです - are generally explanatory in nature. "It's that..." is a decent translation.
