Bibliography

The information in these pages largely comes from the following books:

  • Japan: A Concise History (Fourth Edition), by Milton W. Meyer. Rowman and Littlefield Publishers
  • A Hisotry of Japan: From Stone Age to Superpower, by Kenneth G. Henshall. St. Martin's Press
  • The Greenwood Encyclopedia of World Folklore and Folklife, Volume 2, edited by William M. Clements. Greenwood Press
  • The History of Japan, Second Edition, by Louis G. Perez. Greenwood Press
  • Samurai: An Illustrated History, by Mitsuo Kure. Tuttle Publishing
  • A Brief History of the Samurai: A New History of the Warrior Elite, by Jonathan Clements

I also used wikipedia.org.

Each of these books was used in my "History" sections. I would only put them here if I didn't highly recommend them. Great books!
Unfortunately it would be too much of a headache to cite where each statement made on this website came from. Rest assured, everything I say came from one of these sources.

For those with weak stomachs, I used Wikipedia last and chiefly as a means of double checking the books. Occasionally, Wikipedia had extra information. Before writing that down, I did my best to corroborate the info from other online sources, and I then linked to the Wikipedia page in question so that you can find the citations  that Wikipedia uses. Also, occasionally Wikipedia conflicted slightly with the books listed above. In such situations, for better or for worse, I chose to use the information provided in the books listed above instead of Wikipedia.

Any other sources are linked to in the text.

If you think you've found a mistake, please let me know!
